Nesmith Earns Second NEC Weekly Award
Sierra Nesmith was named NEC Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
For the second time this season, senior Sierra Nesmith was named the Northeast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the league's office Wednesday afternoon.
Nesmith took over the NEC lead in the 400m hurdles while bagging a silver medal at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational. Completing the race in 1:00.59, the decorated Blue Devil set an all-time personal best while creeping closer to the NEC Championship meet record that was set by former CCSU standout Nicole Dumpson in 2003.
The performance bumped the Keystone State product up to the No. 45 ranking on the NCAA Division I East Region leader board (the top-48 athletes qualify for the regional championships in late May). While eclipsing FDU sophomore Shanice Watkins for first place in the NEC, Nesmith cracked the Top 20 on the list of automatic ECAC Championship qualifiers.
Nesmith competes at the 125th Penn Relays on April 25-26 in the women's 400 meter hurdles and triple jump. The Central Connecticut track and field teams hosts the CCSU Blue Devil Invite on Saturday, April 27 in New Britain, CT.
