Women's Track Competes at Wagner Invitational
CCSU competes at Ramapo College Indoor Track & Field Season Opener on Friday, Jan. 11.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team competed in its first competition of the season inside the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY for the Wagner College Invitational.
For the first time competing in the 500 meter dash, senior Sierra Nesmith crossed the finish line in an impressive 1:17.44 seconds, which is less than four seconds away from the school record of 1:13.97.
Senior Madeline Mondo was the only Central runner to compete in the 1 mile race and recorded a time of 5:35.98. Freshman Samantha Vasquez had a solid showing in the 400 meter dash clocking in at 1:05.60.
The women's 800 meter run featured two rookies, Libby Walker and Emily Appleton. In their first time competing the two freshmen finished with times of 2:42.61 and 3:01.21 respectively.
Junior Hailey Rospierski came in fourth place in the 60 meter hurdles on Friday in addition to third place in the women's high jump at 1.60 meters. Senior McKenna Kilian finished seventh in the high jump at 1.55 meters. Rospierski also competed in the long jump, which she jumped a 4.71 meters for a 12th-place finish.
Three Blue Devils competed in the women's shot put with freshman Danyelle Engels in 17th place after a 10.23 meter throw. Kilian threw 8.99 meters and Kailyn Accetura threw 4.80 meters.
In the women's 3,000 meter run, junior Megan Brawner finished in third place with a personal best time of 10:39.97. Freshman Kaitlyn Stevens and senior Morgan Ricci were less than a minute a part coming in at 11:21.70 and 11:56.81 respectively.
Nesmith, Kilian, junior Taylor Davis, and Vasquez represent Central in the 4x400 meter relay coming in seventh place with a time of 4:10.01.
Sophomore Celine Delice and freshman Danyelle Engels competed in the weighted throw. Delice threw 10.96 meters and Engels threw 7.43m.
