CCSU 3rd After Day Two of Blue Devil Invite
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team trails Vermont and Wagner but leads Sacred Heart after day two of the Blue Devil Invitationals.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team sits in third place after day two of competition at the Blue Devil Invitational at Jack Suydam Natatorium in New Britain, CT. Central earned 730 points and trails behind Vermont (1239) and Wagner (1141). Sacred Heart rounds out the four team meet with a score of 166.
In the 200 yard medley relay, the first event of the evening's finals, Central finished fourth. The team consisted of junior Kellen Power, freshman Alaina Papiro, senior Taylor Friedmann as well as junior Helene Neuhaus, who recently returned from competition at the USA Winter Nationals in Austin, TX. The squad finished the event in 1:50.04.
The Blue Devils also turned in a sixth-place performance in the event, finishing in 1:54.06. The team consisted of senior Hannah Packer, sophomore Karen Novak, freshman Julie Hansen and junior Erin Massey.
Senior Katie Lang earned a fourth place finish in the 400 yard IM, touching the wall in 4:39.64. Lang also helped earn second place for Central in the final event of the evening, the 800 yard freestyle relay. The team finished in 7:44.63 behind Wagner and included Neuhaus, Friedmann and senior Allison Rasile.
Central also placed fifth in the event with a time of 8:00.08. The team consisted of Novak and Power, along with junior Kathryn Kiely and senior Lauren Shortell.
In the 200 yard freestyle, Rasile earned fourth place with a time of 1:53.91 and was closely followed by Friedmann who came in fifth less than one second later at 1:54.12.
Other key competitors for the Blue Devils included senior Lauren O'Kelly, who completed the 400 yard IM in 4:39.05 for ninth place; Power, who finished the 100 yard butterfly in 59.49 for seventh; Papiro, who touched the wall in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:09.77 for sixth place and Packer, who earned ninth in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.18.

CCSU returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, December 2, for the final day of competition at the Blue Devil Invitationals. Preliminary competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. and finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.
