Swim & Dive Compete at Rutgers Friday
Senior Taylor Friedmann and junior Kasey Chilton turned in first place performances.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team competed against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Richmond Spiders in Piscataway, NJ on Friday. Senior Taylor Friedmann turned in a first-place finish and earned a new season-best in the 200 yard freestyle event, touching the wall in 1:52.86. She also took second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.22.
Friedmann was followed in the 200 free by classmate Allison Rasile who placed fifth in 1:56.32. Rasile also earned three other top-five finishes for the Blue Devils. She took fourth in the 200 yard backstroke (2:07.23), fifth in the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.23) and helped the 400 yard freestyle relay team to a third-place finish with a time of 3:36.57. Joining Rasile on the relay team was Friedmann and juniors Helene Neuhaus and Erin Massey.
Another Blue Devil gold performance came from junior Kasey Chilton, who completed the 1,000 yard freestyle in 10:22.82 for a new season-best time.
Neuhaus completed the day with a top-five performance as well as a pair of sixth-place spots in addition to her relay competition. She took fifth in the 100 yard backstroke, touching the wall in 58.94, just .14 seconds behind her 2012-13 season best. She placed sixth in the 50 free (25.22) and in the 100 free (54.78).
In the 100 yard breaststroke, junior Kristina Gulia earned fourth-place for Central with a time of 1:07.06. Gulia also took fifth in the 200 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:26.38.
Other key swimming performances from the Blue Devils came from senior Katie Lang, who swam a 2:10.83 in the 200 butterfly, a 1:01.78 in the 100 butterfly and 4:42.00 in the 400 IM. She took sixth, seventh and seventh, respectively. Lang also helped the Blue Devils to fifth in the 200 yard medley relay, the team finished in 1:52.71. Joining Lang on the relay team was Massey, senior Hannah Packer and junior Kellen Power.
From the diving boards, freshman Jessica Goldman placed in the top-five with a score of 209.00 in the 3-meter competition. She came in at fifth, followed by sophomore Kate Dwyer, who placed seventh with a score of 197.50.
From the 1-meter board, Goldman and Dwyer took the seventh and eighth spots with scores of 215.85 and 177.90, respectively.

The Blue Devils will return home to the Jack Suydam Natatorium on Saturday, Febuary 2, for their dual-meet against the Wagner Seahawks. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m.
