Swimming and Diving Announces Captains
Juniors Helene Neuhaus, Erin Massey and Kellen Power have been voted as 2013-14 captains of the Swimming and Diving squad.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team has voted juniors Helene Neuhaus, Erin Massey and Kellen Power as its 2013-14 captains. At the team's annual banquet, the teams also voted on the Most Memorable Performance of this past season and Athlete of the Year.
The Blue Devils voted senior Allison Rasile as Athlete of the Year. Rasile's reception of the award is based on her performances not only at the Northeast Conference Championships but also her performances in dual meets throughout the season. Rasile became the "go to" swimmer, anchoring many relays throughout the season and yielding outstanding performances.
One of Rasile's outstanding performances came in the final leg of the 800 Freestyle Relay at the NEC Championships. She erased a 2.5 second deficit to win the race for Central by half of a second.
The 800 Freestyle Relay at the NEC Championships received the team's vote for the Most Memorable Performance as it was considered by the team to be the most exciting race of the championship. After Wagner and Saint Francis University built a substantial lead, Central came from five seconds behind to win the race. Neuhaus and senior Katie Lang held strong throughout the first two legs of the race to keep the Blue Devils close enough to allow senior Taylor Friedmann and Rasile, who swam two of the fastest 800 relay splits in CCSU history, to come from behind and close the race with a win.
Watch the Blue Devils win the 800 Free Relay.
With the loss of several highly-decorated seniors, Neuhaus, Massey and Power will lead the Blue Devils next season as they look forward to returning strong to the NEC Championships.
