Ten Blue Devils Named All-NEC
The CCSU swimming and diving team earned five spots on the All-NEC First Team, one on the second team and seven on the third team.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team notched 13 spots on the All-Northeast Conference teams for the 2012-13 season, the league announced this week. The Blue Devils earned five positions on the first team, one on the second and seven on the third team. Ten members of the Blue Devil squad earned recognition.
Five Blue Devils were named to the All-NEC First Team. Senior Taylor Friedmann earned the recognition for her performances in both the 500 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay. She was joined in the 800 freestyle relay by classmates Katie Lang and Allison Rasile as well as junior Helene Neuhaus. Neuhaus was also awarded first team honors for her performance in the 100 backstroke.
From the diving board, freshman Jessica Goldman was named to the All-NEC First Team for her wins in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions at the NEC Championships. Goldman was also named NEC Diver of the Year for the 2012-13 season.
The Blue Devils were represented on the second team by Friedmann for her time of 1:49.70 in the 200 freestyle event. Friedmann also earned a spot on the All-NEC Third Team for the 400 medley relay along with Neuhaus and juniors Kristina Gulia and Kellen Power.
Rasile was named to the third team for her performances in both the 200 and 500 freestyle as well as the 200 backstroke. She was joined on the list by junor Kasey Chilton who earned the honor for her 1650 freestyle race.
Freshman Shawna Herter took the third-team honor from the 1-meter board and sophomore Kaitlyn Dwyer did the same from 3-meters.
The Blue Devils completed the 2013 season with a fourth place showing at the Northeast Conference Championships and diving coach Michael Trueworthy was named NEC Diving Coach of the Year.
