Swimming and Diving Raises Funds for American Cancer Society
The CCSU swimming and diving team helped raise over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team joined forces with the teams from Duquesne and Saint Francis (PA) to raise over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society in the third annual "Think Pink" meet on October 27. The seniors from the CCSU team presented a check in the amount of $10,332.50 to the American Cancer Society on Tuesday.
The Blue Devils hosted this year's meet at the Jack Suydam Natatorium in New Britain, CT. The three teams collected an amount close to the total of the previous two years combined. The first "Think Pink" meet, hosted by Saint Francis, raised over $3,000 for the cause. That amount was increased when Duquesne hosted the meet in 2011 and raised over $7,000.
"This is a great cause and the Duquesne and Saint Francis teams came up with a great idea to raise the money," Head CCSU Swimming and Diving Coach Bill Ball said. "We were glad to be a part of it and hope to keep this event going for many years to continue to raise money for the cause."
Each team worked independantly to raise the money as well as allowed for donations at the meet. Central hosted a "Kicking for Cancer" event in which the team completed a 7,500 yard kick set and received donations for the laps they swam.
"The American Cancer Society relies on community support such as the support from the Swimming and Diving Team at Central Connecticut State University, to fuel funds needed for research and to provide cancer patients, caregivers and survivors with free services, programs and information," said Patrice Lestrange Bedrosian, State Director of Communications for the American Cancer Society. "Our gratitude to the team at CCSU for finding creative ways to support the mission of helping people get well, stay well, find cures and fight back against cancer."
