Swimming & Diving Falls at Vermont
CCSU earned five first-place finishes in the dual-meet against Vermont on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team lost 184-116 in a dual-meet against Vermont on Saturday at the Forbush Natatorium in Burlington, VT. The Blue Devils claimed a victory in five out of 16 events on the day.
Junior Kasey Chilton swam a 10:23.75 in the 1,000 yard freestyle event for a the first win of the day by the Blue Devils. She finished over three seconds faster than second-place Vermont and was followed by seniors Lauren O'Kelly and Lauren Shortell who finished in 10:41.46 (third) and 10:50.20 (fifth), respectively.
Senior Allison Rasile earned a first-place spot in the 200 yard freestyle, completing the event in 1:53.56. Rasile also took second in the 200 yard backstroke, finishing in 2:07.20. She swam the first leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay on a team that included classmate Taylor Friedmann and juniors Erin Massey and Helene Neuhaus. They earned second place and finished the race in 3:35.14.
Senior Katie Lang also turned in an impressive performance for the Blue Devils, finishing in the top two in each of her four events. She earned the top spot in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.45 and second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.81), the 200 yard IM (2:11.70) and in the 200 yard medley relay event (1:51.90). Joining Lang on the relay team was senior Hannah Packer, along with junior Kellen Power and Friedmann.
In addition to her two second-place relay appearances, Friedmann won the 500 yard freestyle event with a time of 5:00.44, a full seven seconds faster than her nearest opponent. She also claimed another second spot in the 200 yard butterfly, completing the event in 2:10.15.
Another Central victory came from Neuhaus in the 100 yard backstroke. She finished the event in 58.80 and was followed by Packer in fourth (1:01.63) and sophomore Kaylin Sylvester in sixth (1:06.33). Neuhaus also earned a second-place finish in 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.23.
Other key swimming performances for the Blue Devils came in the 50 yard freestyle with Neuhaus placing third (24.94), the 100 yard backstroke with freshman Alaina Papiro placing fourth (1:10.90), the 200 yard butterfly with freshman Selene Chilton finishing third (2:12.97), the 200 yard IM with O'Kelly placing fourth (2:16.44) and the 200 yard freestyle with Massey placing fourth (1:59.37). Massey also placed fourth in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing in 55.50.
On the diving board, Central sophomore Kaitlyn Dwyer took fourth in the one-meter with a 188.10. She was followed by freshman Jessica Goldman who earned a 187.65, good for fifth place. From the 3-meter board, Dwyer earned a 200.00 for third place and Goldman nabbed fourth with a 189.92.

The Blue Devils will return to action for the USA Winter Nationals at the University of Texas from November 29 through December 1. Central will also kick off December with the Blue Devil Invitational in New Britain, CT at the Jack Suydam Natatorium on Saturday, Dec. 1. Competition will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through Sunday, Dec. 2.
