CCSU in Second After Day One of NECs
Competition continues tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 28.
After day one of competition at the Northeast Conference Championships, the Central Connecticut swimming and diving team is in second place behind defending champion, Saint Francis (PA). The Red Flash won the first event of the evening, the 200 yard medley relay however, the Blue Devils responded with a gold in the 800 yard freestyle relay to pull within four points on the leaderboard.
The Blue Devil 200 yard medley relay team, consisting of juniors Kristina Gulia, Kellen Power, Erin Massey and senior Hannah Packer, came in fourth in the event, touching the wall in 1:46.47. Saint Francis (PA) paced the group, earning the victory in 1:42.79. Bryant nabbed the silver in a time of 1:43.78 and was followed by Wagner in 1:46.17.
In the 800 yard freestyle relay, Central took the gold in a time of 7:26.30 after trailing Saint Francis (PA) for most of the race. The team consisted of seniors Allison Rasile, Katie Lang, Taylor Friedmann and junior Helene Neuhaus. It was Rasile who made the huge push in the final 50 yards of the race to pull ahead and secure the win for the Blue Devils.
