Central 6th at Orange Bowl Swim Classic
The team will return to the pool on January 11 at Florida International University.
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team turned in a sixth-place finish at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic in Key Largo, FL on Thursday, January 3. The Blue Devils amassed 14 points in the meet, five of which came in individual events by senior Katie Lang. Lang earned the top Blue Devil spot of the day, sixth, in the 50 meter breaststroke (35.20) and seventh in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:16.16).
Lang also had a hand in the eighth place finish (two points) of the 200 medley relay team consisting of Lang, senior Hannah Packer and juniors Helene Neuhaus and Kellen Power. The foursome finished the race in 2:05.53. Central also finished 11th in the event with a team made up of seniors Taylor Friedmann and Allison Rasile, junior Erin Massey and freshman Alaina Papiro. They touched the wall in 2:07.20.
Friedmann took seventh in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 4:32.27 and placed 16th in the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:09.39. She finished just behind Lang who earned 14th and touched the wall in 1:08.37.
The Blue Devils earned another top-ten finish in Neuhaus, who completed the 100 meter freestyle event in 1:00.76 for eighth place. Central also finished seventh in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:53.48 to complete the day's competition.
Other top performers for the Blue Devils include Rasile, who finished ninth in the 100 meter backstroke (1:07.49) and 12th in the 50 meter backstroke (32.30), Neuhaus who placed 12th in the 100 meter backstroke (1:08.72) and 13th in the 200 meter IM (2:30.86) and Massey, who also earned 12th in the 100 meter freestyle (1:01.90) and 13th in the 50 meter freestyle (28.49).
The University of Michigan landed the top spot in the meet, earning 291.5 points. Florida International came up with second earning 81 points. FIU was followed by West Virginia University and George Mason University. The University of Vermont rounded out the top five.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday, January 11 at FIU at 6 p.m.
