Women's Soccer Drops Road Match to St. John's

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell at St. John's, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at Belson Stadium in Queens, NY.

GAME INFORMATION

Score: St. John's 3, CCSU 0

Records: CCSU (2-4, 0-0 NEC), St. John's (3-1-2, 0-0 BEC)

Location: Belson Stadium (Queens, NY)

COACH QUOTE

"St. John's got off to a fast start with the early goal and we struggled to get a hold of the game. The second half was better, but we were punished for defensive errors and never really threatened to score. We know we can play better than we did today. Next up a good week of training to get ready for UConn"- Head Coach Mick D'Arcy

KEY MOMENTS

  • St. John's got on the board early in the first half. The Red Storm scored in the 6th minute when Melina Couzis passed the ball up to Nicole Gordon. Gordon then passed the ball inside the box to Ava Collins, who was able to put the ball in the back of the net.

  • Collins scored again when Kayla Mesaros passed the ball to her from across the box in the 61st minute.

  • The Red Storm's final goal took place in the 75th minute when Mesaros fired a shot that banged down from the crossbar and into the goal.

  • Caitlin Murphy made five saves against St. John's, including two of which were less than one minute apart (one from Angelina Scoma in the 37th minute and one from Molly Feighan in the 38th minute).

NOTES

  • This was the first matchup between the Blue Devils and the Red Storm since 2016. St. John's improved their record to 4-0 against Blue Devils.

  • Kelly Brady had Central's only shot on goal in the contest.
