CCSU Takes Down Wagner

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team faced Wagner at Hameline Field in Staten Island, NY on Thursday night. The Blue Devils defeated the Seahawks 1-0.

KEY MOMENTS 

  • The Blue Devils got on the board early on in the first half. In the fifth minute, Kelly Brady scored with an assist from Aoife Horgan. 

  • Caitlin Murphy made an impressive save in the 38th minute when Wagner's Gabby Cipriano attempted to score and give the Seahawks their first goal.  

  • CCSU had a chance to make the score 2-0 when Abbie Burgess took a shot in the 43rd minute. Seahawks' goalie, Erin Kelly, was able to make the save. 

  • Horgan had a shot at scoring for the Blue Devils early in the second half. She took a shot in the 50th minute that was saved by Kelly. 

  • Murphy blocked three more shots on goal in the second half to secure the shutout. (Madison Carr in the 46th minute, Juliana Rafaniello in the 53rd minute, and Rebecca Wood in the 62nd minute) 

 

NUMBER TO KNOW 

9- Central has won every game they have played against Wagner since 2014. Today's win makes it their ninth straight victory against the Seahawks. 

NOTES  

  • The Blue Devils and the Seahawks have played each other every season since 1998.  

  • Tonight, CCSU improved their all-time record against the Seahawks to 24-1-1. 

  • The game's kickoff was delayed 30 minutes due to traffic.
