Women's Soccer Falls to Harvard on Friday Night

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest to Harvard on Friday night at CCSU Soccer Field. The game's start was delayed by thunderstorms moving through the area. The Crimson took control of the game with two goals late in the first half before tacking on another in the second half.

Score: Harvard 3, CCSU 0
Records: CCSU (1-2), Harvard (1-0)
Location: CCSU Soccer Field (New Britain, CT)

  • Harvard managed to crack the Blue Devils' defense with a pair of goals in the waning moments of the first half. The Crimson got on the board in the 39th minute when a loose ball came to Josefine Hasbo in front of the net. She took a swinging kick with her right leg to push the ball past the defense for a 1-0 lead.
  • Harvard added to the lead with just under three minutes to go in the half. Audrey Francois sent an initial shot on goal that was stopped but the rebound came to Hasbo who settled and sent a low shot to the left side past a diving keeper to make it 2-0.
  • The Crimson added an insurance goal with just over 20 minutes remaining. Hannah Bebar's ball was deflected and came to Hasbo who finished off the goal to record the hat trick.
  • The Blue Devils had a dangerous chance with just over 10 minutes to play. They had a free kick from about 30 yards out and the kick into the area slipped behind the defense, but was unable to connect with a Blue Devil for the goal.

"It's always disappointing to lose, especially at home, but in fairness Harvard were very good tonight and deserved to win. There are plenty of positives to take from the game too and ultimately we will learn from tonight and get better," said head coach Mick D'Arcy.

1 - The CCSU attack was bottled up by the Crimson defense which allowed the Blue Devils to put just one shot on target.

  • Caitlin Murphy matched a career-high with five stops in the game.
  • Abbey Chase had Central's only shot on goal in the contest.
  • Since defeating Harvard in back to back meetings in 2005 and 2006, CCSU has gone winless in seven meetings with the Crimson.
  • The game's kickoff was delayed for 35 minutes due to thunderstorms blowing through the area.

The Blue Devils head to New Hampshire on Sunday for their first road game of the season. The 2:00 p.m. kickoff will stream on ESPN+.
