Schloop Named NEC Scholar-Athlete
Schloop also headlined the 103 Blue Devils selections to the Fall Academic Honor Roll and 32 Commissioner’s Honor Roll honorees
Central Connecticut football player Mason Schloop was named the Northeast Conference Fall Scholar-Athlete on Tuesday by the league office. Schloop also headlined the 103 Blue Devils selections to the Fall Academic Honor Roll and 32 Commissioner's Honor Roll honorees, also announced on Tuesday.
Schloop continues to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA as a collegiate student-athlete. After graduating in May with a degree in Exercise Science, he is working towards a second degree in Biology. He is a 2022 College Sports Communicator Academic All-Region honoree, and in May become the first Blue Devils male student-athlete and the first NEC football player to be named NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He played in 10 games during the 2022 season and helped the offense rank second in the league in yards per game and rushing yards, leading the way for the NEC's leading rusher. Schloop was also named to the FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team.
Seven fall CCSU student-athletes boast perfect 4.0 GPA on the list, with four football players (Schloop, Jadd Dolegala, Trey Gray and Kenyatta Huston) and one each from women's cross country (Ashley Dana), women's soccer (Delaney Lawler) and volleyball (Stela Velinova). All six of the Blue Devil fall sports were well represented, with football placing 26 on the All-Academic Team, while women's soccer had 25, men's soccer, 20, volleyball, 12, men's cross country, 11 and women's cross country, 9.
All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.
Along with the scholar-athletes, the NEC announced its Fall Academic Honor Roll, consisting of a conference record 1,264 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average, a 5.5 percent increase from the conference standard set a year ago. There were also 490 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 3.75 or better grade point average, just shy of the league record 498 from last fall.
