Women's Soccer Tops St. Francis Brooklyn 1-0

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team played against St. Francis Brooklyn Thursday afternoon at Brooklyn Bridge Park-Pier 5. The Blue Devils defeated the Terriers 1-0, improving their record to 4-0 in the Northeast Conference.

KEY MOMENTS 

  • The Blue Devils had their first scoring chance in the 12th minute when Zoe McGlynn sent a through pass up the field to Kelly Brady. Brady dribbled inside of the box and took a shot just wide of the goal. Central continued to apply the pressure when in the 16th minute, McGlynn booted the ball forward to Charlotte Simmons who chipped the ball over the crossbar. 

  • The Terriers had the opportunity to get on the board in the 30th minute. Angelina Briggs dribbled up the field and slid the ball to Isabella Radovini. Radovini passed back the ball to Taylor Lauren who bent a shot towards the goal and straight into Caitlyn Murphy's arms. 

  • In the 38th minute, CCSU had their first shot on goal. McGlynn sent a pass towards the middle of the field to Roma McLaughlin. McLaughlin teed it up and got the shot off, sending the ball towards the high center of the goal where Klil Keshwar was able to make the save. 

  • St. Francis had an aggressive start in the second half with a shot on goal in the 46th minute. Jess Rodriguez sent a pass into the box to Margaret Motolese. Motolese used her left foot to kick the ball towards the goal which rolled after a few bounces into Murphy's arms. 

  • The Terriers kept the momentum going in the 50th minute when Izzy Gollette sent a long range pass with her left foot inside the box to Rodgriguez. Rodriguez headed the ball towards the goal where it was scooped up by Murphy. 

  • CCSU got on the board in the 59th minute when Kristina Kelly was knocked down in the 18, earning a penalty kick. Kelly sent the ball towards the lower left corner of the goal, just out of reach of Keshwar, and found the back of the net. 

  • St. Francis attempted to even the score in the 62nd minute when Briggs sent a throw in to Taylor. Taylor was able to shake off the CCSU defenders and send a shot across the goal mouth where Murphy tackled the ball to make the save. 

 

NUMBER TO KNOW 

4- This is CCSU's fourth straight victory against St. Francis Brooklyn.  

NOTES  

  • The Blue Devils and the Terriers have faced off every year since 2019. Today CCSU improved their record to 4-0 against St. Francis. 

  • This was Kristina Kelly's fourth goal of the season, making her the CCSU's leader in total points (9).
