
Women's Soccer Falls in Northeast Conference Championship 2-0 to Saint Francis U on Sunday
Saint Francis's Sara Suler and Alyssa McGhee scored goals in Sunday's 2016 NEC Championship game to top #2 seed Central Connecticut 2-0. Three Blue Devils were named to the NEC All-Tournament Team, including Emily Hogan, Carla Jackson, and Brianna Scaldaferri.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell to number one seeded Saint Francis Unversity in the Northeast Conference title game on Sunday at SFU. With the loss the Blue Devils end their season with a 9-11-1 record.
In addition to their runner-up award, three Blue Devils, freshmen Emily Hogan and Carla Jackson, and junior Brianna Scaldaferri, were named to the NEC All-Tournament Team.
The top-seeded Red Flash scored the game's first goal in the 25th minute of championship action. NEC Player of the Year Gabi Morales sent a pass to sophomore Sara Suler who headed in the goal to take the 1-0 lead.
At the break, SFU held an advantage in corner kicks, 4-1, and shots 10-6.
Trailing in the second half, Central's leader in goals and points this season, and NEC Rookie of the Year, Carla Jackson, led the Blue Devil offense, taking three shots, but the Blue Devils could not find the back of the net against a solid Red Flash defense.
In the 67th minute Morales recorded her second assist, this time on a Alyssa McGhee goal, putting the Blue Devils down 2-0.
With the loss in the final, CCSU is now 8-3 in NEC championship games.
The 2016 Northeast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, senior Nicki Turley, recorded six saves against the Red Flash in her final collegiate game.
