Pearse's Overtime Goal Gives Blue Devils Second Straight Win
Danielle Pearse heads in winning goal on a pass from #6 Laura Casanovas Diaz
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team defeated Colgate in overtime on Sunday, 1-0, improving its record to 2-6-0 on the season. The win is the second straight for the Blue Devils, both coming via the shutout.
Colgate is now 2-1-4 on the season.
The Blue Devils posted the game's only goal with just over three minutes remaining in overtime when junior Laura Casanovas played a perfect pace to the front of the net where sophomore Danielle Pearse was waiting. Pearse leapt and placed the header into the back of the net for the overtime victory for Central.
Senior Nicki Turley posted her second straight shutout in goal and made a season-high nine stops in the victory. The two-time Northeast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year has allowed just one goal in her last three appearances.
Turley and the Blue Devils faced 11 total shots from the Raiders in the first half, but the senior was able to stop all six shots on goal and keep the game scoreless.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half, and the Blue Devils went to overtime for the second time this season.
Pearse's first goal of the season (WATCH IT HERE) was the second game-winning goal of her career.
Central Connecticut will look to add to its two-game winning streak hosting Providence on Thursday, September 15th at 7 p.m.
