
Turley and Jackson Receive Northeast Conference Weekly Awards
Nicki Turley and Carla Jackson are acknowledge by the Northeast Conference for their efforts in last week's victories against LIU Brooklyn and Sacred Heart.
Central Connecticut women's soccer players, freshman Carla Jackson and senior Nicki Turley, were honored for the second straight week with their individual Northeast Conference weekly honors as announced Monday. Combined they helped the Blue Devils to two shutout victories over NEC opponents, Wagner and Sacred Heart this past week. Central is now in first place in the league with a 5-0 record.
Jackson's NEC Rookie of the Week award marks her third in a row this season, as well as being named the NEC Player of the Week for scoring the game's only goal at Wagner, 1-0, and for recording her first career assist in the Blue Devil's, 2-0 win over Sacred Heart. At Wagner, the freshman shot a rocket into the bottom left corner of the net in the 25th minute of play. On Sunday against Sacred Heart, Jackson lofted a pass over the Pioneer defenders to Danielle Pearse for the Blue Devils second goal to seal the victory.
Jackson is now on a four-point streak and has a point in every conference game this season. She is the Blue Devils leader in goals (4) and points (9).
Turley registers her third NEC Defensive Player of the Week acknowledgment after registering two shutouts for the Blue Devils against Sacred Heart and LIU Brooklyn, to help the Blue Devils remain undefeated in the league. She now has seven shutouts on the year, five of which are against NEC opponents. Turley has not surrendered a goal in 497:09 minutes of action. In the two contests on Friday, at Wagner, and Sunday, at homer, she totaled five saves and improves her overall record to 7-6-0 on the season.
The women's soccer team will take the field again on Oct. 23rd at home when Fairleigh Dickinson (5-9-1, 3-0-1) visit the undefeated Blue Devils.
