Women's Soccer Downed by Brown, 1-0
Blue Devils host Cornell on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team could not overcome a second half goal against Brown and dropped a 1-0 decision on Sunday at CCSU Soccer Field. The game was the third of a six-game homestand. CCSU is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 25, against Cornell at 1:00 p.m.
The Blue Devils' record slips to 2-8 on the season.
CCSU had the first chance of the day when freshman Carla Jackson worked her way along the endline through the Brown defense just over 10 minutes into the game. She got a shot off at the near post that was deflected out for a corner kick.
The teams combined for just four shots in the opening period as the defenses were difficult for either side to generate offense. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime.
Central had the first shot on goal in the second half coming in the 68th minute when Brown's inability to clear the ball set up freshman Emily Hogan. She picked up the ball outside the area and dribbled into range, but her shot went into the arms of the goalkeeper.
The Bears managed to break the deadlock and got the game-winner in the 74th minute. Ella Warshauer picked up the ball in the Central end and held off the defender and got a shot off just outside the box and sent it low to the left post past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 with 16:06 to play.
The Blue Devils and Brown finished even in shots, 4-4. Sophomore Ashley Cavanaugh made one save for Central.
Central is back in action against Cornell at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25.
