Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten in NEC With Shutout Win Over Bryant
CCSU score season-high three goals in second straight shutout win
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 3-0 shutout victory over Bryant University on Friday night. The Bulldog, who entered the game unbeaten in conference play, fall to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the NEC.
The Blue Devils are now 2-0 in the league, with both wins coming via the shutout. They are 4-8-1 overall. Central has not allowed a goal in its last three games and has allowed just one in its last four. They are 2-1-1 in those four games.
Senior goalkeeper Nicki Turley recorded her fourth win via the shutout this season. The shutout is her second straight and she has now not allowed a goal in the last 227:09. In her last five games she has allowed just three goals and has four shutouts.
Sophomore Danielle Pearse notched her second goal of the year at 31:03 in the first period off of a free kick from junior Kelly Halligan. Pearse headed in the goal over a Bulldog defender to give the Blue Devils the 1-0 lead.
The Central defense continued to dominate games as they held Bryant to just three shots in the half.
Central continued to pressure the offensive end of the field when freshman Alexandra Schafer set up sophomore Lexi Kochin for her first career goal. With 14:14 left in the period, Kochin found the back of the net on a strike from 25 yards out and made it 2-0 at halftime.
Freshman Carla Jackson scored for the second straight game to push the lead to 3-0 early in the second half. Jackson took a corner and passed it to Halligan, who sent it out to junior Brianna Scaldaferri. Scaldaferri sent it back to Jackson, who took it left, then back to the right and fired a shot from 20 yards out by the keeper for the three goal lead.
Turley made three saves in the shutout. The Blue Devils held an 11-5 edge in shots, and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. They had six corner kicks on the night.
Central travels to LIU Brooklyn next to take on the Blackbirds on Sunday, Oct. 9, for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
