
Women's Soccer Drops Road Contest at Saint Francis U, 2-1
The Blue Devils close out the regular season at Robert Morris on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was stopped by Saint Francis U in a 2-1 loss on Friday at Stokes Soccerplex in Lorreto, PA. The Blue Devils scored first, but the Red Flash answered with two first half goals.
Central's record is now 8-9-1 overall and 5-2-0 in Northeast Conference play. The Red Flash move their record to 7-11-0 on the year and 5-2-0 in the league.
In the fourth minute of action, freshman Carla Jackson gave CCSU a 1-0 lead. Jackson split multiple defenders before firing her fifth goal of the season into the left corner of the net. Jackson is CCSU's leader in both points and goals, and ranks second in the NEC in goals per game.
St. Francis' Gabi Morales tied the game at 15:30 off of a penalty kick to make it 1-1.
The Red Flash took the lead in the 25th minute when Alyssa McGhee sent a cross to Leah Hardin, who put her shot into the top right corner to make it 2-1.
Freshman Emily Hogan took a team-high three shots for CCSU. Senior goalkeeper Nicki Turley recorded four saves in the match.
The Blue Devils will conclude their 2016-17 regular season on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Robert Morris in a 12:00 p.m. kickoff at the North Athletics Complex in Moon Township, PA.
