Women's Soccer Moves to 5-0 in NEC, Still Hasn't Allowed a Goal in League Play
Turley runs shutout streak to 497:09 with fifth straight shutout
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team moved to 5-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 2-0 shutout victory at home over Sacred Heart on Sunday night. The Blue Devils have yet to allow a goal in conference play and have outscored their opponents 9-0 in those five victories.
Senior Nicky Turley, a two-time NEC Goalkeeper of the Year, now has seven shutouts on the season, including all five for the Blue Devils against NEC opponents. She has not surrendered a goal in 497:09 minutes.
Junior Kelly Halligan provided the only offense the Blue Devils would need in the victory. In the game's 18th minute, Halligan took a free kick from outside the box and fired it over the Sacred Heart goalkeeper for the score. It was her first goal of the season. (WATCH IT HERE)
The Blue Devils added a goal in the final minute of play to seal the victory. Sophomore Danielle Pearse scored her third goal of the season to push the lead to two and give Central the victory. She took a feed in front of the goal from freshman Carla Jackson and headed it home. Jackson now had a point in every conference game this season for CCSU. (WATCH IT HERE)
The win moves CCSU to 5-0 in league play and 7-8-1 overall on the season. The shutout is the sixth straight for the Blue Devils and their eighth in the last 10 games. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games.
Central returns to action at home in their final regular season home game of the year, next Sunday, Oct. 23, at 12 p.m. hosting Fairleigh Dickinson on Senior Day. They will play their final regular season games on the road at Robert Morris and St. Francis U the following weekend.
