
Women's Soccer Wins Share of Regular Season Title, Will Be Second Seed in NEC Tournament
Blue Devils finish the regular season with 6-2 conference mark
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team defeated Robert Morris, 1-0, in its final regular season game on Sunday, securing a share of the Northeast Conference Regular Season Title with a 6-2 record in league play. The Blue Devils will be the second seed in the Northeast Conference tournament.
The Blue Devils and St. Francis U share the regular season title with identical 6-2 records. SFU holds the head-to-head tie-breaker and will host the league tournament. The Blue Devils will play #3 Sacred Heart in the semifinals on Friday. The time is TBA.
Sophomore Shelbie Carr was credited with her first goal of the season, and the only goal of the contest, which came in the 25th minute of play, to propel the Blue Devils to victory over the Colonials on Sunday.
CCSU finishes their 2016-17 regular season campaign with a 8-10-1 record overall. Robert Morris fell to 6-12-0 on the year, and 4-4-0 in the conference.
Freshman Emily Hogan recorded her third assist on the season when she placed a low cross kick in front of Kelly, who redirected the ball to find the back of the net.
Senior Nicki Turley finishes her last regular season match with fives saves. It was her eighth shutout of the season and her sixth in league play. With the win, Turley improves her record to 8-8-0.
CCSU will take the field against third-seeded Sacred Heart in the tournament's first semifinal match at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA.
