
Women's Soccer Falls, 2-0, on Senior Day to Fairleigh DIckinson
The Blue Devils recognized seniors Kristine Kelly and Nicki Turley before the game.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 2-0, on Sunday in a Northeast Conference match at CCSU Soccer Field. Before the match the two Blue Devil seniors, Nicki Turley and Kristine Kelly, were honored at midfield with their families and coaches for their accomplishments throughout their women's soccer careers.
The Blue Devils are now 5-1-0 in the NEC, and 8-8-1 overall. Fairleigh Dickinson improves to 4-1-1 in the conference, and 6-10-1 on the year.
Kelly and freshman Carla Jackson took two shots apiece, and Turley recorded two saves on the day.
Before Fairleigh Dickinson opened the scoring in the 48th minute of play, the Central women had not been scored upon in league play. The Knights got on the board when Jessi Reinhardt took a shot from long range that went to the upper left corner to make it 1-0.
Just four minutes later, the Knights doubled the lead when Dara Battistoni sent a cross into the area that Stasi Torchia headed back across the goal to the lower left corner to make it 2-0.
The goals were the first allowed by CCSU in over 544 minutes of NEC play.
The CCSU women's soccer team will close out the 2016 regular season with two roads games this upcoming weekend. They will face Saint Francis U. on Friday, Oct. 28th, at 12:00 p.m. in Loretto, PA, and then will travel to Robert Morris on Sunday for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
