
Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards
Blue Devils soccer programs recognized for work in the classroom in 2015-16.
The Central Connecticut men's and women's soccer teams were honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 season, the NSCAA announced Thursday. The Blue Devils were among 221 schools that received the honor for both the men's and women's teams. In order to qualify for the award, the team must have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year.
A total of 892 soccer teams (315 men, 577 women) earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 academic year.
The men's soccer team posted a 3.22 GPA to earn the award for the fourth straight year. The CCSU women's soccer team compiled a 3.46 team GPA and in addition to earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 15th consecutive year, it was honored with the Northeast Conference Team GPA Award.
Central was one of three programs in the Northeast Conference to have both its men's and women's teams honored, joining LIU Brooklyn and Saint Francis U on the list of honorees.
The Blue Devils women's team is back in action on Friday night when it hosts Bryant at 7:00 p.m., while the men's team opens NEC play at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
