Winkler Named NEC Field Athlete Of The Week
Grad student set javelin school record in first outing of the season
Central Connecticut State graduate student Colin Winkler was named the Northeast Conference Track & Field Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday for his performance at the Raleigh Relays. He was joined by five teammates, Aiden Budge, Lucas Figueiredo, Greyson Golda, Brendan Mellitt, and Kyle Wimbish as NEC Prime Performers.
Winkler posted the seventh-best javelin throw in the NCAA thus far in 2025 in his CCSU debut, throwing 71.36m at the Raleigh Relays. That throw also set a school record in the javelin, surpassing the 2023 mark of Logan Ratcliff at 67.13m. All told, Winkler had five throws in the event that surpassed the former school record. The 71.36m effort is tops in the NEC through the second weekend of competition.
Budge ran the top time in the NEC in both the 800m (1:50.74) and the 1500m (3:52.86) at the Raleigh Relays. Figueiredo posted the fastest NEC performance in the 400m, 47.49, and the sixth fastest 200m, 21.89, also at the Raleigh Relays.
Golda threw at the Black & Gold Invitational over the weekend, posting the league's best effort in the hammer throw (54.40m), fourth-longest discus (45.31m) and sixth-best shot put (13.75) through the end of March. Mellitt ran the best time in the NEC (14:44.59) in the 5000m at the Bryant event, while Wimbish cleared 1.99m in the high jump for the second-best NEC performance of the spring.
The Blue Devils are back in action at the UMass Invitational on Saturday, April 5th.
