
Golda, Whittaker Lead Men's Track & Field To NEC Championship With Record Point Total
The Blue Devils win the team crown for the third time in program history.
For the third time in program history, and the first time since 2018 the Central Connecticut State men's indoor track and field team has captured the Northeast Conference Indoor Championship.
The Blue Devils accumulated a meet record 179 points in dethroning the four-time defending champion, Wagner. The Seahawks scored 140 points to finish as the runner-up, with Stonehill in third with 89.5 points.
Greyson Golda took home two major awards following the meet. The only thrower to score points in both throws event, finishing second in both the shot put and weight throw, he was named the Outstanding Field Performer – Throws and the Rookie of the Meet.
Samuel Whittaker was named the Most Outstanding Runner – Distance for the championship. Whittaker defended his crown to win the 3000m championship on Sunday, before capturing a pair of silver medals in the mile and the 5000m on Sunday.
The Blue Devils currently hold all three men's NEC championships, winning the 2024 NEC Outdoor Track and Field crown, the 2024 NEC Cross Country crown and the 2025 NEC Indoor Track and Field title.
CCSU are back in action on March 2nd at the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier hosted by Boston University.
- Jacob Ireland led a 1-2 sweep of the mile run, crossing at 4:11.79, and then again in the 800m, winning in a time of 1:53.41
- The Blue Devils also had three scorers in the 400m, led by champion Lucas Figuieredo who won by .02 with a run of 48.13 – a new CCSU record
- KyMoy Phillip took gold in the 500m dash, running 1:03.92, and was joined in the top-six by Max Czarnecki, at 1:06.11
- Golda won the silver medal in the weight throw, with his opening throw of 16.61m securing him the medal
- Whittaker was second in the mile at 4:14.36 and Yankarlos Diaz picked up three points in sixth place with a run of 4:21.81
- Aiden Budge was the runner-up in the 800, crossing at 1:54.13, while Ryan McCauley was sixth at 1:55.79
- Whittaker led five Blue Devil scorers, 20 points, in the 5000m finishing second at 14:33.66, with Mark Rodriguez (14:45.03) and James Sullivan (14:47.93) placing fourth and fifth
- Brendan Mellitt (14:57.13) was seventh and Eddie Nicholas (14:57.83) was eighth in the 5000m race
- Noah Colangelo took bronze in the 200m dash, going 21.53
- The DMR took gold by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 10:07.22, as Budge, Czarnecki, McCauley and Ireland led the race from wire-to-wire
- The 4x400 relay closed the meet with another first place finish, with Colangelo, Phillip, Brown and Figuieredo running 3:15.63 in a wire-to-wire victory
- Tristan Burke picked up a bronze medal for Central in the 60m dash, running 6.96
- Colangelo placed fourth in the 400m, crossing at 48.72 and Jayden Brown was seventh in 49.35
- Kyle Wimbish cleared 1.93m in the high jump to capture eighth-place, while Keith Townsend cleared 1.90m to finish as part of a three-way tie for sixth place
- Willie Elliott claimed seventh in the triple jump, jumping 13.88m on Monday
- Kenny Agwu finished eighth in the 60m hurdle final, running 8.56
