
Men's Track & Field 2nd Following Day One at NECs; Whittaker Wins 3,000 Meter
The Central Connecticut men's track and field program opened competition at the Northeast Championships on Sunday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY. Samuel Whittaker won the 3,000 meter run to highlight CCSU's opening day of competition.
Through four scored events, the Blue Devils are in second with 37 points, just behind Wagner (49).

TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
- Whittaker's time of 8:27.91 paced a field loaded with Blue Devils in the 3,000 meter run. James Sullivan (8:29.57) took silver, while Eddie Nicholas (8:39.05) and Mark Rod Rodriguez (8:39.47) placed sixth and seventh respectively.
- Tristan Burke (6.91) had the third-fastest time in the 60m prelims.
- Kenny Agwu had a time of 8.52 in the 60m hirdles to qualify 8th in the preliminaries.
- Noah Colangelo had the fastest time in the 200m prelims, running 21.61.
- Lucas Figuieredo had the top time in the 400m prelims with a time of 48.88. Colangelo qualified with the third-fastest time at 49.27, while Jayden Brown ran 49.85 to qualify eighth.
- Kymoy Phillip (1:05.11) and Maxwell Czarnecki (1:06.68) each turned in top-five times in the prelims of the 500m dash.
- A trio of CCSU runners finished 3-4-5 in the fastest times in the 800m prelims. Jake Ireland (1:55.46), Aidan Budge (1:55.17) and Ryan McCauley (1:55.40) will run in Monday's final.
- In the mile, four Blue Devils were among the top-10 times in the preliminary. Yankarlos Diaz (4:26.17), Whittaker (4:23.99), Ireland (4:26.72) and Ryan Scappaticci (4:27.29) ran second, third, sixth and 10th respectively in the prelims.
THROWS HIGHLIGHTS
- Central took silver and bronze in the shot put with Greyson (Golda (15.22m) and Tristan Smith (15.15m).
