
Baseball Tops Sacred Heart in Midweek Action
The Central Connecticut baseball team won its fourth consecutive game, defeating non-conference foe Sacred Heart University, 11-6, Tuesday afternoon in New Britain.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU started the scoring in the home portion of the second inning with three consecutive singles, the last by Antonio Ducatelli that scored Bo Yaworski. Two batters later, Gabe Pitts hit a homerun over the right field fence for the 3-0 lead.
- SHU started off the top of the third with back-to-back singles, leading to an RBI double from Alex Ungar that scored a run. A ground out and a balk scored two more runs to tie the score 3-3.
- Central wasted no time responding, working consecutive one-out walks in the bottom of the third that brought Yaworski to the plate and he lined a ball that a diving Charlie Tallman had tick off his glove and roll into right field, scoring Aidan Redahan to put Central back on top, 4-3. Ducatelli followed with an RBI double to left center that plated Chris Brown and chased Bryan Matuschat from the game, trailing 5-3. Brendan O'Neill followed with a two-RBI ground rule double to make the score 7-3.
- Ronan Donahue laced a two-out double in the top of the fourth and scored a batter later on a seeing-eye single from Joe Cilea. SHU added an unearned run in the top of the sixth, as Donohue earned the RBI on a groundout to shortstop, closing the deficit to 7-5.
- Brady Short drove a two-out double off the right field fence in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Pitts. After the Pioneers left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Redahan promptly added an insurance run with a leadoff homerun to right field in the bottom of the inning.
- With runners on first and second and two out in the top of the eighth, Wyatt Cameron came in and induced an inning ending ground out.
- In the eighth, Owen Arias earned a leadoff walk and Pits followed with a double, and both came around to add insurance runs.
- SHU scored a run in the ninth, but Wyatt Cameron struck out Steak Newman, with the bases loaded to close the game.
NOTES
- The Blue Devils reached double figures in hits once again, the 13th consecutive game with at least 10 hits
- Redahan was 2-4 at the plate on Tuesday, extending his hitting streak to a dozen games. He is now hitting .480 on the season.
- Pitts went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. He hit his first career homerun.
- O'Neill had two hits and drove in three runs.
- Central has won 11 of its last 12 games.
- CCSU is 62-45 against SHU all-time.
