
Baseball Continues Win Streak, Downs Mercyhurst Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team extended its win streak to six games by defeating Northeast Conference visitor Mercyhurst University, 12-2, Saturday afternoon. Vincent Borghese earned the complete game win for the Blue Devils. He fanned 10 batters, including the final two outs of the game, as he scattered five hits over the day.

KEY MOMENTS
- Chris Brown bounced a ball over the head of the Mercyhurst third baseman for a double to plate Kyle Gordon, who reached on a one-out walk, to give CCSU a 1-0 lead. Bo Yaworski followed with a high chopper to first that resulted in an out, but scored Aidan Redahan, before Brown scored on a single up the middle from Antonio Ducatelli, for a 3-0 lead after an inning of play.
- Ducatelli led off the fourth inning with a hustle double and came around to score on a single from Gabe Pitts. Pitts, who advanced to second on the throw to the place when Ducatelli scored, came home on a single up the middle from Matt Falk, to make it 5-0 CCSU. A Brady Short walk and a single from Gordon loaded the bases, and after a pitching change, Redahan singled up the middle to plate a pair of runs for the 7-0 lead.
- The Lakers broke through at the plate in the top of the sixth, plating a pair of runs on two hits in the inning. Jayden Walker singled to plate Aaron Keating for the first run and Ranciel Ventura's sacrifice fly played Eric Chorba for the second run.
- The Blue Devils responded in the home portion of the inning, loading the bases in front of a ground rule double from Yaworski to score two runs. Ducatelli hit a 2-2 pitch deep to left center, that was caught but scored both runners to give CCSU a 12-2 lead.
NOTES:
- Borghese caught six of his 10 strike out victims looking, while walking just two. He won his fourth straight start.
- The Lakers didn't get a runner past first base until the sixth inning of the game.
- Central has won seven straight conference games.
- The Blue Devils collected 14 hits as a team, the seventh straight game with 10+ hits.
- Antonio Ducatelli had two hits and three RBIs.
- Gabe Pitts had a 3-for-4 day.
- Aidan Redahan went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, while Chris Brown was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
- CCSU has won the first two meetings between the schools.
