Baseball Sweeps Weekend Series from UMES on Sunday
The Central Connecticut baseball team swept its Northeast Conference series against Maryland Eastern Shore with a 10-7 win on Sunday in New Britain. The Blue Devils bullpen allowed just one run and two hits after the fourth inning to win its third straight contest.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to play at UAlbany on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- Brady Short led off the game with a triple for CCSU. He would score on a RBI-groundout by Jeff Nicol to make it 1-0.
- After a two-run homerun by UMES' Anders Brown in the top of the second, CCSU put runners on first and second with two outs. Elliot Good would hit a two-run double down the line in left field to put CCSU ahead, 3-2.
- Hunter Pasqualini drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the third to put CCSU ahead 4-2.
- The Hawks took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning. Jason Brown hit a one-out single, driving in two runs to tie the game. With two outs and a runner on, Bronson Taylor hit a ball off the top of the fence in right field for a homerun to put UMES ahead, 6-4.
- Central would load the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Short would drive in a run on a ball that was misplayed and left the bases loaded. Still with nobody out, Gianno Merlonghi would single to drive in a run and tie the game. After a double-play allowed another run to score and left a runner on third base, a wild pitch would clear the basepaths scoring the fourth run of the inning to make it 8-6 for CCSU.
- Merlonghi hit a two-out solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth to make it 9-6.
- The teams traded runs in the seventh inning. Derek Blackmore hit an RBI groundout for UMES, while Good drew a bases-loaded walk to close out the scoring.
NOTES
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 27-0-1
- The Blue Devils swept their first conference series of the season.
- Merlonghi hit his first homerun of the season and was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
- Good went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.
- Patrick Reilly tossed 3.1 innings in relief, earning the win. He allowed one run and one hit, while striking out four batters.
- Nic Benhardt struck out a hitter in his inning of relief, while Sam Hutchinson picked up his second save. He struck out two batters in 1.0 inning.
