Baseball Falters Against LIU on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball team was outscored by LIU, 11-7, on Saturday in Northeast Conference action in New Britain. The Blue Devils scored first but LIU would score three in the sixth and then hit stree straight homers in the eighth.
The teams have split the first two games of the series, which concludes on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- The game was scoreless through two and a half innings until Michael Torniero led off the bottom of the third with a solo homerun for CCSU to make it 1-0.
- LIU broke through to take the lead in the top of the sixth with three runs. Connor Price hit a solo homer with one out to tie the game. LIU then strung together back-to-back hits to put runners on first and third. The Blue Devils nearly got out of the inning unscathed, but a two-out walk was followed by an error that scored the go-ahead run. Seth Surratt then singled in another run to make it 3-1.
- Central got a run back in the bottom of the frame. Hunter Pasqualini doubled and came around to score on a single by Aidan Redahan to make it 3-2.
- The Sharks broke the game open in the eighth with three straight, two-out homeruns. JC Navarro hit a two-run homer and was followed with solo homers from Jake Mastillo and Price to make it 7-2.
- Pasqualini scored on a double by Redahan in the bottom of the eighth to make it a four-run game.
- LIU took advantage of a pair of errors in the ninth and tacked on four runs. Surrett and Noah Sorenson hit back-to-back run-scoring singles and Mastillo hit a sac fly to push the lead to 11-3.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Torniero led off with a single and scored on a triple by Chris Barkasy. After an LIU error allowed a run to score, Jeff Nicol doubled to drive in another run before scoring on an groundout to make it 11-7.
NOTES
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 55-33, while LIU snapped a four-game slide with Saturday's win.
- The Central offense collected a season-high 13 hits.
- Redahan had three hits and drove in two runs.
- Pasqualini and Torniero each had two hits and two runs scored. Torniero added an RBI.
- Anthony Mozzicato started and tossed 5.2 innings. He was charged with three runs, just one earned, and struck out five, but also walked five.
