
Baseball Scores Nine in the 8th to Drop UMES, 13-4, on Saturday
The Central Connecticut baseball batted around in the eighth inning to down Maryland Eastern Shore, 13-4, on Saturday in New Britain. The Blue Devils hit a pair of homeruns and broke a tie game with nine runs in the eighth inning to win their second straight game.
The Blue Devils and Hawks will play on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the second inning. Hunter Pasqualini doubled to lead off and moved to third on a single by Aidan Redahan. A wild pitch allowed Pasqualini to score the first run. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Brady Short doubled in two runs to make it 3-0. Another wild pitch allowed the fourth run of the inning to score.
- The Hawks would chip away at the deficit with two runs in the fifth inning. UMES opened the inning with a walk and a double to put runners in scoring position. Jason Brown hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the first run. Danny Sadler, Jr. would score on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.
- UMES would tie the game in the seventh inning. With runners on the corners with one out, Anders Brown drove in a run on a fielder's choice to make it 4-3. With runners on first and second, Bronson Taylor singled to right and drove in the tying run.
- The Blue Devils broke the tie, batting around and scoring nine runs in the eighth inning. Joe Rios and Bo Yaworski would hit back-to-back pinch-hit doubles, resulting in the first run of the inning. After Central loaded the bases with one out, Gianno Merlonghi would single in a pair of runs. Pasqualini would hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 11-4. Two batters later, Rios would get his second hit of the inning with a two-run homerun to centerfield to make it 13-4.

- Pasqualini went 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs.
- Brady Short, Aidan Redahan, and Rios each added two hits.
- Short, Merlonghi and Rios drove in two runs each as well.
- Sam Hutchinson earned the win after throwing 1.1 perfect innings with two strikeouts.
- Vincent Spizzoucco made his first start of the season and allowed two runs on three hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out four.
