Baseball Falls to William & Mary in Opener at Central Virginia Classic
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell to William & Mary, 8-3, on Friday afternoon at Plumeri Park in its season-opener at the Central Virginia Classic. The Blue Devils got back-to-back home runs from Michael Torniero and Elliot Good to account for a pair of runs in the contest.

KEY MOMENTS
- William & Mary opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. A. Greco drew a leadoff walk before moving to second on a wild pitch. After moving to third on a fly ball, a two-out single by Luca Trigiani brought Anthony Greco home to make it 1-0.
- Central did all of its damage with two outs in the fourth inning. With two outs, Michael Torniero launched a homerun to left field to tie the game. Elliot Good followed and ripped the first pitch he saw off the scoreboard in left to make it 2-1. Gianno Merlonghi would single for CCSU's third straight hit and moved to second on an error that put runners on first and second. Hunter Pasqualini slipped a single through the left side to drive in a run and make it 3-1.
- The Tribe would retake the lead with a four-run fifth inning. W&M led off with three straight singles before back-to-back walks brought home runs to make it 3-3. After a pitching change, with one out a single by Henry Jackson drove in two more runs to make it 5-3.
- William & Mary tacked on three runs in the sixth. A double by Nate Goranson drove in a run with one out, while a sac fly by Greco and a single by Trey Christman each plated a run.
NOTES
- The teams were meeting for the first time.
- The Blue Devils scored all three of their runs with two outs.
- Torniero and Good hitting back-to-back homeruns, marked the second straight game CCSU has had consecutive homers. Jeff Nicol and Joe Rios went back-to-back against Campbell in the NCAA Tournament last season.
- Neuman started and logged 4.0 innings in his 48th career appearance.
- Patrick Reilly tossed 2.0 hitless innings in relief, notching three strikeouts.
- Pasqualini, Merlonghi and Aidan Redahan each had two hits. Pasqualini hit a single, triple and drew a walk.
