Baseball Surges Past UMES on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team took the opener of a three-game Northeast Conference series with a 7-2 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday in New Britain. Jake Neuman tossed a complete-game and Colby Brouillette hit a two-run homerun for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils and Hawks continue the series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- The game began in wet conditions and the teams combined for nine walks in the opening two innings. The Hawks would get on the board first to open the scoring with a pair of bases-loaded walks in the second inning to go ahead 2-0.
- Brady Short would draw a leadoff walk in the CCSU third. Following a fly ball and a groundout he moved to second. Brouillette would pull a line drive over the right field fence for the game's first hit to make it 2-2. After an error extended the inning, Joe Rios singled to put a pair of runners on. Michael Torniero would single to right to drive in a run and make it 3-2.
- After battling through the rainy start, Neuman would hold UMES hitless until the fourth inning when a bouncer back at the mound deflected off his glove. He would then retire the next seven batters he faced.
- CCSU added an insurance run on an RBI-single by Short in the fourth before Aidan Redahan singled home two more in the seventh. Hunter Pasqualini doubled home a run in the eighth to wrap up the scoring.

- CCSU leads the all-time series, 25-0-1
- Neuman tossed his first complete game and allowed just three hits, while striking out eight. He walked just two batters after the third inning.
- Short went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. He also had a stolen base.
- Nicol added two hits and a run.
- Torniero had two stolen bases.
- Central snapped a nine-game slide dating back to March 24 with the win.
