Baseball Holds Off Sacred Heart, 4-2, in Saturday Tilt
Central Connecticut scored the first four runs and would hold off Sacred Heart, 4-2, in Northeast Conference action on Saturday at CCSU Baseball Field. The Blue Devils would leave six Pioneers runners stranded over the final four innings, including the bases loaded in the eighth

KEY MOMENTS
- Central opened the scoring in the first with a two-out, RBI single by senior Dave Matthes to make it 1-0.
- CCSU loaded the bases with no outs in the third. Senior Buddy Dewaine would single home a run and junior Jack Nolan would bring home another on a sac fly to make it 3-0. Freshman Noah Martinez would score on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
- Sacred Heart had runners on second and third with one out in the fourth. Anthony Porrino singled home a run before getting picked off rounding first.
- SHU got another run in the fifth on a ground out by Joey Skarad to make it 4-2.
- CCSU worked around a leadoff double in the sixth when senior Brandon Fox would strikeout three straight batters. In the eighth, SHU loaded the bases with one out before freshman Dominic Niman got a strikeout and a ground out to end the Pioneers' threat.

- Fox scattered nine hits over 6.0 innings of work. He had eight strikeouts against no walks.
- Neuman and freshman Jake Neuman combined to allow two hits with six strikeouts and three walks in 3.0 shutout innings of relief.
- Martinez and Matthews each had two hits for the Blue Devils. The top five hitters in the CCSU lineup combined for seven of the team's eight hits.
- Junior Jay Devito had two runs scored for CCSU.
