Baseball Outdueled at Sacred Heart Sunday
Central Connecticut dropped Sunday's series finale, 2-1, at Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference baseball action at Veteran's Park. The Pioneers would score a run in the first inning and another in the third, and that would be enough to hold off the Blue Devils in a showdown of pitchers.

KEY MOMENTS
- Sacred Heart got both of its runs in the first three frames. In the first inning, Elijah Brown singled and stole second base. He would move to third base on a single before scoring on a steal of home to make it 1-0. The Pioneers doubled the lead in the third after a pair of walks put runners on and Isiah Daubon singled to score Justin Jordan before being thrown out at second base.
- Central managed to have just one runner reach second base in the first five innings. In the sixth, freshman Noah Martinez singled with two outs. He would come around to score on a double by freshman Michael Torniero to make it 2-1.
- CCSU would get a runner to second in the seventh and eighth innings, but SHU pitchers would leave them stranded. Tyler Briggs recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close the game out.

4 - Only four Central runners reached second base in the game. The only runner to advance past second was Martinez, who scored from first base in the sixth inning.
NOTES
- Martinez went 3-for-4 in the game and scored the Blue Devils' only run.
- Torniero and freshman Elliot Good each had a double, while senior Dave Matthews and freshman Hunter Pasqualini each singled. Matthews had a stolen base.
- Freshman Anthony Mozzicato tossed 5.2 innings in the start for CCSU. He scattered six hits and struck out six, while walking two.
- Junior Matt Shane and freshman Jake Neuman combined to allow just one hit in 2.1 innings of relief.
- Junior Jay Devito did not reach base for this first time this season, ending a streak of 33 straight games reaching base.
- Jake Babuschak allowed just one run on six hits in 7.0 innings for SHU. He struck out three hitters.
