Neuman Earns Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American Honors
Central Connecticut freshman Jake Neuman was named to the 2021 Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American team, powered by Diamond Sports, it was announced Wednesday. Neuman helped CCSU to a 28-15 record overall and its second straight NCAA appearance after claiming its third Northeast Conference title since 2017.
Neuman, who was named NEC Rookie of the Year and a Second Team All-NEC pick, slid into the CCSU bullpen as a rookie and took on the role of a closer for the Blue Devils. He went 3-0 with eight saves and a 1.88 ERA in 14 appearances during the regular season. He averaged 5.85 strikeouts per 9.0 innings, while posting 12 outings. In addition to being the third Blue Devil to earn NEC Rookie of the Year honors, he earned a spot on the NEC All-Tournament Team after tossing 4.2 innings of one-run ball in the NEC title game.
On the year, Neuman went 5-1 with a 1.67 ERA in 17 appearances. He had 21 strikeouts in 32.1 innings and collected eight saves.
