Baseball Falls to LIU in Series Finale on Sunday
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell at LIU, 5-4, on Sunday in the series finale in Northeast Conference action at LIU Baseball Complex. The Sharks won the game with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth to avoid being swept by the Blue Devils

KEY MOMENTS
- LIU broke through to open the scoring with three runs in the third. Cade Biddle singled and stole second with one out. He would score on a single by Anthony Warneke to make it 1-0. A pair of walks would load the bases before a pop up for the second out. A bases loaded walk brought in the second run before Giovanni Ciaccio singled to make it 3-0.
- Central came back with three runs in the top of the fourth. Senior Dave Matthews led off with a single and after a pop up, CCSU would put runners on the corners following an error. A walk loaded the bases and freshman Elliott Good singled to clear the bases and tie the game.
- The teams traded runs in the fifth inning. Junior Sam Loda singled home Matthews to make it 4-3. The Sharks came back in the bottom of the inning with a RBI-groundout to make it 4-4.
- LIU would score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, taking advantage of four walks. Andy Camilo drew a bases loaded walk with two outs to plate the winning run.
NUMBER TO KNOW
10 - CCSU surrendered a season-high 10 walks, while allowing just five hits - tied for the second-fewest they've allowed.
NOTES
- Matthews went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead CCSU hitters.
- Good drove in two runs for his first multi-RBI game.
- Freshman Anthony Mozzicato started for CCSU, but lasted just 2.2 innings. He was charged with three runs on two hits. He had just one strike out, while walking four.
- Junior Dylan Sabia tossed 3.0 innings in relief and allowed just one hit, while striking out three.
- Central has won all five of its conference series' this season.
