Stony Brook Scores Two in Ninth to Top Baseball
The Central Connecticut baseball team lost to Stony Brook on Friday, 4-3, at CCSU Baseball Field after giving up two runs in the ninth inning. The Blue Devils got a solo homerun from senior Buddy Dewaine and 7.0 solid innings from senior starter Andrew Braun in the opener of a three-game series.
The teams play on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central opened the scoring with a three-run third inning. Juniors Matt Bertochi led off with a single and scored on an error that allowed classmate Jay Devito to reach base. Devito would score on a ground out to make it 2-0 before Dewaine hit his first homerun of the year with two outs to make it 3-0.
- Stony Brook strung together three straight hits to open the fourth. An RBI single by Chris Hamilton and a sac fly by Shane Paradine made it 3-2.
- The Seawolves scored two runs in the ninth on back-to-back hits on a double by Paradine and single by John Tuccillo to go ahead 4-3. Kyle Johnson came on with a runner on first and no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but would get a sacrifice bunt and two strikeouts to end the game.
NOTES
- Braun struck out the first five batters he faced and was perfect through three innings. He would finish with eight strikeouts and no walks over 7.0 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits.
- Freshman Dominic Niman threw 1.0 inning and recorded a strikeout.
- Dewaine and Bertochi each had a hit and a run scored.
- Senior Dave Matthews went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
