Braun's Shutout Lifts Baseball by Sacred Heart in NEC Opener
Senior Andrew Braun tossed a complete game shutout to help the Central Connecticut baseball team win its Northeast Conference opener against Sacred Heart, 6-0, on Friday at CCSU Baseball Field. The Blue Devils lineup banged out 13 hits from seven hitters in the lineup to give Braun all the support he would need on the day. Braun struck out 10 batters and scattered five hits on the day.
The Blue Devils and Pioneers play the second of three games on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU scored a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the first before batting around and plating four runs in the third. Central's first five batters in the inning reached safely with freshman Noah Martinez singling in a run and junior Jay Devito scoring on a wild pitch. A one-out single by Peyton Stephens plated another run, before freshman Hunter Pasqualini would hit a two-out single to score another run and make it 5-0.
- Central tacked on a run in the seventh when sophomore Dan Covino singled in a run to round out the scoring.
- Braun struck out the side in two innings and did not allow a runner past second in the game. He did not face more than four hitters in any inning either.

0 - Braun did not walk a batter in the game. He has allowed just one walk in 19.0 innings on the year.
NOTES
- Martinez went 4-for-5 with a double, a run and RBI on the day.
- Pasqualini finished 3-for-4 at the plate.

- Cooper Thompson took the loss for SHU. He started but allowed five runs in 2.1 innings.
