Baseball Hits Three Homeruns in Season-Opener Against UAlbany
The Central Connecticut baseball team opened its 2021 campaign with a 15-6 win over UAlbany on Sunday at CCSU Baseball Field. The Blue Devils were playing their first game since March 10, 2020. Senior Dave Matthews hit a pair of homeruns, while redshirt freshman Noah Martinez added another.
CCSU is scheduled to host UMass on Tuesday, March 10.

KEY MOMENTS
- After the Great Danes scored four runs in the top of the first inning, Matthews hit his first homerun of the day. His three-run shot got CCSU within, 4-3.
- Sophomore Dan Covino hit a two-run single to tie the game in the fourth inning. He would score two batters later on a single by Martinez to make it 6-5.
- Martinez and Matthews each hit a two-run homerun in the sixth. The Blue Devils would then tack on five runs in the seventh inning. Martinez hit a two-run single, while senior Buddy Dewaine and Matthews each drove in another run.
NOTES
- Central's previous game - against Manhattan on March 10, 2020 - was a 13-2 win at CCSU Baseball Field.
- Matthews went 2-for-4 with six RBIs.
- Martinez finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs.
- Dewaine was 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.
- Covino and freshman Hunter Pasqualini each had two hits.
- Senior Andrew Braun got the win on the mound. He threw 3.0 shutout innings in relief with four strikeouts.
- Senior Brandon Fox started for CCSU and went 3.0 innings. He had three strikeouts.
