Baseball Holds Off UMass, 8-6
The Central Connecticut baseball team used a five-run fourth to hold off UMass, 8-6, on Tuesday at CCSU Baseball Field. The Blue Devils got three RBIs from sophomore Dan Covino and two more from junior Jay Devito in the win.
CCSU hosts Stony Brook for a three-game series beginning Friday.

KEY MOMENTS
- Sophomore Jack Nolan scored on a wild pitch and Covino hit a sacrifice fly to plate junior Sam Loda to open the scoring in the second for CCSU.
- After UMass tied the score in the top of the inning, CCSU would come back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Loda and freshman Hunter Pasqualini hit RBI singles, while Covino added an RBI groundout. Devito would add a two-run single to make it 7-2.
- Covino would hit a solo, inside-the-park homerun in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-4. The Minutemen would make it 8-6 in the top of the ninth but junior Dylan Sabia got a game-ending groundout.
NOTES
- Freshman Anthony Mozzicato started for CCSU and threw 2.0 innings of perfect ball. He recorded three strikeouts.
- Covino finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored
- Nolan was 2-for-2 with two runs, while Loda was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
- Devito went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, Pasqualini went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
