Baseball Takes Series Opener at LIU
The Central Connecticut baseball team won the series opener at LIU, 4-2, on Friday to begin the Northeast Conference series at LIU Field. The Blue Devils scored runs relied on timely hitting and strong outings on the mound to win for the seventh time in eight games.

KEY MOMENTS
- Junior Jay Devito was hit by a pitch with one out in the third inning. Redshirt freshman Noah Martinez followed with his fourth homerun of the season, sending it over the fence in right center to make it 2-0.
- LIU got a run in the fifth after Colin Adams singled to lead off. He would move to third on a pair of groundouts before a single by Anthony Warneke brought him home to make it 2-1.
- In the seventh, Central loaded the bases with two outs and Martinez drew a walk to score junior Sam Loda and push the lead to 3-1.
- The Sharks got the run back in the bottom of the inning after Adams again got on via a single. He would score from second on a single to Warneke to make it 3-2.
- CCSU added an insurance run in the eighth. Loda doubled with two outs and would score on a single by freshman Hunter Pasqualini.
- Freshman Jake Neuman would pick up his fifth save after LIU put runners on first and second. He got a pop up to end the game.
NUMBER TO KNOW
0 - For the third time this season, CCSU pitchers did not allow a walk. Senior Andrew Braun started the game and has allowed just three walks on the year in 38.2 innings, while racking up 44 whiffs.
NOTES
- Braun improved to 4-0 on the year after allowing two runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings.
- The CCSU bullpen tossed 2.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out four LIU batters. Freshman Dominic Niman had a pair of strikeouts, while sophomore Dylan Benton struckout the only hitter he faced in the seventh.
- Martinez finished 1-for-4 with three RBIs. He has hit safely in six straight games.
- Seven Blue Devils recorded a hit in the game, including senior Buddy Dewaine who was playing after missing the six previous games.
