Baseball Takes Second Game to Split Saturday Doubleheader With Bryant
The Central Connecticut baseball team split a doubleheader with Bryant on Saturday at CCSU Baseball Field in Northeast Conference after knocking in 13 runs in the second game. The Blue Devils took game two, 13-5, after falling to the Bulldogs, 8-6, in the first game.
The Blue Devils will play nine straight road games beginning with a three-game series at Wagner this weekend.

KEY MOMENTS (Game 1)
- The Bulldogs drove in four runs on four singles in the top of the first. DaMaurys Rodriguez's two-out single drove in a pair to make it 4-0.
- Junior Sam Loda got a run back for Central in the bottom of the first with an infield single to plate junior Jay Devito.
- Liam McGill, who hit a pair of homeruns in the game, hit a solo shot to left in the third to make it 5-1. Central would come back with four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. Freshman Elliot Good led off with a double and would score on a single by Devito. Following a single by freshman Noah Martinez, Loda would single home a pair of runs to make it 5-4. Freshman Dan Hussey would make it five straight Blue Devils to reach base when he singled to plate Martinez to make it 5-5.
- After McGill hit his second homer of the game with one out in the sixth, CCSU would tie it again in the eighth. Junior Christian Layne would enter as a pinch runner and got to second after a bunt. He would eventually score on a wild pitch to make it 6-6.
- Bryant would score two runs in the top of the ninth to win. Rodriguez beat a throw at the plate to make it 6-5 and a Jake Gustin single would push across an insurance run.
KEY MOMENTS (Game 2)
- After Bryant scored three runs in the top of the first, Loda would deliver a two-out single to drive in two runs and make it 3-2.
- Freshman Anthony Mozzicato would settle in after the first inning and limit the Bulldogs to just three hits over the five innings. He would benefit after CCSU tacked on two runs in the fourth. A single by freshman Michael Torneiro would tie the game before sophomore Dan Covino delivered an RBI-single to make it 4-3.
- Central broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning, all with two outs. Devito would deliver a two-run double before back-to-back walks loaded the bases. A wild pitch would plate a run before Loda connected with a ground rule double to center field to make it 9-3.
- Bryant would get a run in the top of the seventh on a single by Gustin. With runners on first and second and one out, sophomore Tim Buchek came on in relief for CCSU. His first pitch would induce an inning-ending double-play.
- In the bottom of the seventh, junior Peyton Stephens would hit a solo homerun to centerfield before Martinez would draw a bases-loaded walk and Sanchez hit a sac fly to bring home two more runs and make it 12-4.
- The teams would trade runs in the eighth inning. Stephens' RBI-single would score senior Dave Matthews to close out the scoring.
NUMBER TO KNOW
2 - Central pitching gave up just two walks in 27.0 innings in the series. The Blue Devils' staff would ring up 25 strikeouts in the three games, including an 11-strikeout, 0-walks effort in the finale.
NOTES
- Loda finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 with seven RBIs.
- Devito had three hits on the day. He has reached base in every game this season and has a .531 on-base percentage.
- Senior Brandon Fox started the first game. He lasted 6.0 innings and had four strikeouts and no walks, but would get a no-decision.
- Mozzicato went 6.1 innings in game two. He scattered nine hits and allowed three earned runs. He had seven strikeouts and no walks.
- The Blue Devils' lineup had six hitters collect at least two hits in game two. Matthews had three hits in the game, including a double.
- Central dropped its first NEC series of the season with the loss in game one. It was CCSU's first NEC series loss since April 18-19 against Bryant.
