Baseball Erupts in 21-7 Win at Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team opened its three-game Northeast Conference series at Fairleigh Dickinson with a convincing 21-7 win on Friday at N.F.B. Complex. All nine starters in the Blue Devils' lineup collected at least one hit, led by senior Buddy Dewaine who drove in six runs and was 3-for-5.
The Blue Devils would finish with a season-high 17 hits, including four home runs in the win.
The teams will play a doubleheader with two nine-inning games beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

KEY MOMENTS
- CCSU opened the game with a pair of homeruns in a three-run first inning. Sophomore Dan Covino took the game's opening pitch over the right field wall. Dewaine followed three batters later with a two-run shot to make it 3-0.
- Junior Matt Bertochi hit his first homer of the season in the top of the second to make it 4-0. CCSU then plated five runs in the third inning. An RBI double by Dewaine, a two-run homerun by junior Peyton Stephens and a RBI-single by Covino gave the Blue Devils a nine-run lead.
- FDU would score a run in the third and then added five in the fourth the close the game to 9-6. Tom Ruscitti's two-run homer highlighted the Knights' outburt.
- CCSU would come back with five runs in the top of the fifth. A two-run single by freshman Noah Martinez and a three-run double by junior Sam Loda gave Central a 14-6 lead.
- After FDU scored a run in the seventh, CCSU would push across six runs in the eighth. Junior Jay Devito singled home a run before a bases-clearing double by Dewaine made it 18-7. Senior Dave Matthews and Loda followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to make it 20-7.
- Freshman Jeff Nicol closed out the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth inning.

10 - Central cracked 10 extra-base hits in the victory. Dewaine had three, while Loda added a pair of doubles.
NOTES
- DeMawaine collected his fourth multi-hit game of the season, while scoring four runs in the game. He is batting .415 on the year with 11 RBI.
- Matthews went 3-for-5 in the game with an RBI and two runs scored. He has five multi-hit contests on the season.
- Martinez added four runs scored, while Covino had a pair of hits and scored three runs. Bertochi and freshman Hunter Pasqualini each scored two runs.
- Senior Andrew Braun started for Central, going 4.0 innings. He was charged with six runs, while striking out eight and walking just one.
- Junior Dylan Sabia tossed 5.0 innings in relief and got the win. He allowed just one run on two hits, while striking out six and walking one.
- CCSU scored its most runs since a 24-13 win at Quinnipiac on May 2, 2017. Dewaine tossed 0.2 innings in that contest. Senior Andrew Braun, who started Friday's game, tosses 1.1 innings.
