Men's Golf Vaults to Third Place in NEC Championship
Blue Devils shoot a round two best score of 293
The Central Connecticut men's golf team used a round two score of 293 to move up to third place after the second and final round of the Northeast Conference Tournament on Sunday in Daytona Beach, FL. Central improved 20 strokes from its round one score and moved from seventh to third place in the final standings.
The championship was being held at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, FL. The course is a par 72 and is 6,830 yards long.
FINAL ROUND SCORING
The round of 293 was the best team round on Sunday and the second best round in the entire tournament. The Blue Devils finished just six strokes out of second place.
Bryant University won the team title with a two round score of 592. Fairleigh Dickinson was second at 600, followed by Central (606), Robert Morris (608) and LIU Brooklyn (616).
Junior Monte Mullen paced the Blue Devils with a second round score of 68 (-4). Senior Matthew DeJohn fired a +1 73, followed by freshman Nick Direda (+3, 75) and freshman Bryant Bolden (+5, 77). Freshman Matt Hills added a +6 score of 78 on the second and final day of the tournament.
Mullen's score was the second lowest of the day, behind only Peter Ballo of Sacred Heart who shot a tournament low score of 66. Mullen's 68 was the third best round in the entire tournament. He finished in fourth place with a score of +2, 146.
DeJohn finished in a tie for 11th place overall, followed by Bolden in 19th and Direda in 20th place.
