Blue Devils Finish Third at Annual Fall Invite
Mullen fires a 67 on Monday for the tournament's low round
Junior Monte Mullen fired a tournament low round of 67 on Monday to help the Central Connecticut men's golf fire a second round 287 to climb to a third place finish at the annual CCSU Blue Devils Fall Invitational.
The tournament was held at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield, CT. It is a par-70 course.
Central sat in sixth place after the first round on Sunday, but led by Mullen the Blue Devils took 13 strokes off of their first round score to climb three spots in the final standings on Monday.
Bryant won the title with a two round score of 576, followed by Laval University (585), then CCSU (587), Sacred Heart (589) and Hofstra and St. Peter's (590) tied for the fifth spot.
Mullen's 67 (-3) was the low round of the tournament, and he finished the tournament at +1 (74-67) and in third place. Senior Matthew DeJohn shot 73-71 to finish +4 and help pace the Blue Devils in their Monday climb. He finished in a tie for seventh place.
Freshman Matt Hills went 76-74 to finish +10 while freshman Nick Direda (79-75) and sophomore Connor Murphy (77-77) both finished at +14 for the two-day tournament.
St. Francis U finished seventh, followed by Holy Cross, Manhattan, Bentley, Iona and St. Francis Brooklyn.
The Blue Devils return to action Sept. 23-24 at the VCU Shootout at Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, VA.
