Blue Devils Finish Tied for Eighth at Macdonald Cup
Mullen leads CCSU with 18th place finish
Junior Monte Mullen shot an even par round of 70 in the third and final round of The Macdonald Cup held at Yale University over the weekend to help lead the Central Connecticut men's golf team to an eighth place finish. Central shot a team score of 293 on Sunday, giving them a three-round total of 877, tied with Penn for eighth place.
Mullen's 70 was the best round of the tournament of the Blue Devils. He had a pair of 71's in the first two rounds, and finished +2 in a tie for 14th place overall.
Illinois won the tournament with a three round total of 807, good for -33 under par. They won by 25 strokes over Yale, followed by St. Edward's University (844), Rhode Island (859) and Hartford (861). Central's 877 was just six shots behind seventh place UConn.
Senior Matthew DeJohn shot a third round 72, matching his best round of the tournament, to finish at 219 (+9) in 34th place. Freshman Bryant Bolden shot a final round 74 to shoot 222 (+12) and tie for 41st place overall. Classmate Matt Hills shot 77 and finished at +15 in a tie for 51st place. Jack Ayers wrapped up the Central scoring with a 79 on Sunday, putting him in a tie for 66th place (+23)
The Blue Devils will be in action again on Oct. 14-15 at the UConn Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, CT. They will complete their fall season at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Oct. 20-21 at Great River Golf Club in Milford, CT.
