CCSU Tops Bryant in Sunday Shootout
Matthew DeJohn takes individual honors with a -1 score of 71
Senior Matthew DeJohn shot a -1, 71 to win individual medalist honors as the Central Connecticut men's golf team topped Bryant University 307-320 in a shootout match on Sunday afternoon. The match took place at Alpine Country Club in Cranston, RI. Alpine Country Club is a par-72, 6,918 yards course.
DeJohn's 71 was easily the top score of the day for either team, as the Blue Devils and Bulldogs played one final match prior to this week's Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championship that will begin on Friday, May 2.
Freshman Bryant Bolden added a 78 while classmate Nick Direda added a score of 79. sophomores Jack Ayers and Connor Murphy also added scores of 79. Bryant was led by sophomore Joe Walp who recorded a team-low score of 79, as did teammate Zach Garbarik.
The Blue Devils finished their regular season with two teams wins and two match wins to their credit. They posted seven top-five finishes in their 11 tournaments. They also posted five individuals victories (two in match play) with junior Monte Mullen winning the New England Championship in the fall, while DeJohn and freshman Matt Hills each recorded a tournament title in the spring.
The NEC Championship begins this Friday and will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at in Daytona Beach, FL at the LPGA International Golf Club.
